Williamsport mayor in Strain fracas

Speaking of tawdry:
Former Williamsport mayor John Slayman says three prints of a painting of Confederate General Robert E. Lee crossing the Potomac River were given to him in 1993. They hung at Town Hall and the Williamsport Memorial Library. But others say they were given to the town -- and a brass plaque on the frame of each picture says so too.
Slayman is battling the town to hold on to all three John Strain prints. They're kitschy but they retail at $999 each. Welcome to Williamsport, a hardscrabble town.
